I am a helper and healer with over 20+ years of experience as a social worker and therapist. I specialize in working with people who've experienced trauma, grief/loss, parents whose children have special needs or medical complexity, and adults navigating the aging process. My therapy "toolbox" includes CBT, EMDR, strength-based approaches, and more. As your therapist, I promise to listen, support, encourage, sometimes challenge you, hold space, and walk with you on this journey. My approaches include: 1) working toward understanding how your life experiences have come together to bring about your current thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and life circumstances; 2) using concrete and structured homework assignments to help you achieve your goals, resolve relationship issues, find greater happiness, and develop greater control over anxiety, depression, or anger; 3) discussing philosophical and existential aspects of life as they relate to your concerns; 4) providing support and empathy when life brings you hardship or pain; and 5) helping you to articulate your needs, desires, and goals, and to develop plans and solutions to help you satisfy them. I prefer to look at clients as whole individuals (or whole relationships) rather than diagnoses. As such, I am likely to focus on issues like making sense of your life, improving your relationships, making healthier choices, and finding joy in your work. I believe in being as straight-forward as possible in counseling, and I like to utilize humor whenever possible.

I am always marveled by the resilience individuals exhibit in the midst of chaos. However, we tend to forget our strengths as we face hardships. Working in Crisis management, I am marveled at the resilience I have witnessed in those who have experienced trauma. Therefore I want to journey with individuals and help them to identify their hidden strengths and empower individuals so they can function to their fullest potential in society and be their authentic selves. I have worked with adolescents, adults, families and couples in multitude of settings as a hospital chaplain, a spiritual director and a pastoral counselor. I have experience working in crisis management as a mental health counselor intern with a wide range of clientele from the greater Milwaukee area. As a counselor, I take a strength-based approach to empower individuals. Anushka’s mission is to help the clients discover their own strengths, explore the solutions that are hidden within them, and to be a companion in their life journeys.

Counseling is a journey of change and self-discovery and it is not always easy to take that first step. There are not issues that are “too small” or “unimportant.” They are worth addressing because they are affecting your life. We will work together as a team to find the best solutions for your situation. I believe in beginning with the strengths you already have and building on those. We will develop coping mechanisms and strategies to help you through what is bringing you to counseling. The journey toward living the life you want begins with you taking the first step. A sense of safety is critical for progress in psychotherapy, and I take care to provide that sense of safety for each person I serve. I appreciate the uniqueness of each person and family I encounter, and work in partnership with them to create their own unique healing process, based upon proven treatments, solid research, and recent advances in treatment protocol. I am a certified trauma counselor, registered play therapist, and Theraplay practitioner and trainer. I provide family therapy that prioritizes the value of each member of the family, healing individuals and relationships, and building or rebuilding healthy family dynamics. I have extended training and experience in providing psychotherapy related to trauma including adult and child sexual abuse, multigenerational trauma, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, complex trauma, and interpersonal violence. Additionally, I am experienced in successfully treating Borderline Personality, Attachment & Adoptions issues, parent-child/adolescent conflicts, and family and family systems distress. Changing behaviors is difficult, and I and my fellow clinicians at Clinical Psychology Associates make great efforts to find each Client the most comfortable fit of providers and treatments specific to each Client's overall needs, including financial needs. Please feel free to contact my office and request a free consultation.
