My couples appts are currently full and I do not keep a waiting list - I will update this information when couples appts become available. There are times in life when the coping skills that we have are no longer effective and the things that you thought that you moved past are somehow staring you in the face. I provide a comfortable atmosphere to discover skills to tackle old and new "things". I enjoy working with adults and couples. My area of interests include anxiety, depression, marital concerns, PTSD, and trauma. I incorporate CBT, DBT, EMDR, and AEDP into my practice. When working with couples I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman curriculum. My goal is to partner with clients to explore the skills they desire to focus on in their broad situations and life experiences. I believe that therapy is a unique partnership between the client and therapist. I am open to exploring a partnership that will yield your desired outcomes. You are welcome to schedule a phone consultation to decide if I would be a good partner in your wellness journey. Please access my website for additional information about my practice and fee schedule.

People are occasionally presented with circumstances that tax their ability to effectively cope with life's challenges. A central aspect to helping clients is my belief in the unique qualities and strengths of each person. In a warm and empathic environment these core strengths can be drawn out, amplified and enlisted to solve their problems and meet life challenges. The goal is to help people enhance understanding and develop new skills that create a sense of competence, balance and well being. This process provides the foundation for personal growth and positive change in one's life. I use a variety of strategies to help clients reach goals and feel better. This includes but is not limited to exploring the effects of one's past on current problems, how thoughts and feelings influence our behavior, how changes in behavior can change our perception of ourselves, and the significance of current relationships in shaping our lived experience. Do any of these behaviors apply to your relationship? We seldom have any sex or intimacy. We only talk about the kids or work, just daily stuff, nothing important. I feel lonely in this marriage. If it weren't for the kids we would be done. Sometimes I think about having an affair, I never thought that would be me. I love my partner but I just don't feel like I am In Love with him/her. I think marriage can get boring, It's just we can't communicate. We either don't talk or we argue. Couples bring tough issues to counseling the room! You need a counselor with specialized couples counseling training. Of the 80% of therapists who work with couples ONLY 12% have pursued the training to be qualified to do this hard work. I am specially trained to work with couples. In my 20+ years of providing therapy to individuals and couples I have learned important lessons. Successful Therapy requires Three Things: Skills, Will and Trust. I bring the Skills, you bring the Will and we all bring the Trust. Trust that Therapy can help your BEST self show up in your relationship.

Falling in love is addictive. It is your brain on cocaine. Until, it isn't. At first, you couldn't picture months of arguing. Even an affair, broken trust. Perhaps you never imagined hiding away, secretly texting a colleague - s/he listens to you. Perhaps you just want the miscommunication and storming out of the room to end. Relationship counseling. You want to better communicate. You want to be seen. You want the dry spell to end. The immense irritation you feel when you start bickering, you want to learn to head it off before it starts. There are skills to be learned, truths to be told. Many things can divert a once happy relationship. Talking to a therapist can help. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and I have been in couples counseling myself. This is why I am passionate about working with couples: I know it works. Call me, I offer free phone consultations.

If you are feeling disconnected, helpless, or stuck, I can assist you in changing the patterns and ways of relating which might be holding you back. By prioritizing your sense of safety, welcoming heavy emotions, and guiding you to meet/heal unknown parts of yourself or your partner, you can gain freedom from the patterns in which you feel trapped. I work with individuals and couples, supporting them to understand the ways they manage stress through retreating inward and shutting down, or turning outwards for connection and validation. From there, I help clients to better understand who they are and what they need. I work with couples to calm their painful patterns by learning how to avoid their well-worn dance, share what happens on the inside of them during moments of stress or conflict, and be more responsive when their partner reaches for them. Where there have been fractures in trust or security, it is possible to repair these hurts and restore emotional security. Connecting with yourself and others can be scary, especially if it has caused pain in the past. The behaviors causing us the most difficulty are oftentimes our best attempts at feeling calm, safe, or worthy. You deserve to experience peace and wholeness, individually or as a couple. Becoming a parent is life-changing in many ways. Some we can prepare for, but many we cannot. I have a special interest in working with mothers struggling with anxiety or depression related to pregnancy, adjustment to becoming a parent, traumatic birth experience, infant or child hospitalization, or having difficulty with breast or bottle feeding. I also have a passion for helping youth who have experienced trauma and can help decrease symptoms of depression, anxiety, behavior problems, sexualized behaviors, and trauma-related shame, while improving social competence and trust. I am trained in CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, DBT and Mindfulness. I offer evidence-based therapies for individuals and couples. For individuals, I use CBT to modify negative thought patterns and behaviors, and DBT tools enhance emotional regulation and well-being. For couples, I employ the Gottman Method to strengthen bonds, resolve conflicts, and improve communication, trust, and intimacy. Asking for help can be overwhelming, and I thank you for allowing me to introduce myself. I offer early morning and evening appointments, and am available in person or over Telehealth to accommodate busy schedules. I look forward to working with you and your family.

I truly believe that every person has the strength they need to face these challenges with the right support in place. Therapy can make an enormous difference in people's lives. I've seen it again and again. And if you're considering therapy -- alone or with your partner -- you've probably reached a point where you realize that things need to change. Getting that change started is a big step. And finding the right person makes all the difference. I'll want first and foremost to understand the situation you're in, and to get a sense of how you see things. I'll want to understand what you've been experiencing, and what sorts of changes you'd like to see. Once we have a clear understanding of what's happening for you, and a sense of where you want things to go, then -- together -- we'll get you there. It takes work, and it's not always easy, but if you're working with the right person, things will change. I'm an MIT graduate, and taught for 20 years in the Holistic Counseling program at SRU. I remain on the faculty of the Gestalt International Study Center, and continue to train therapists locally, nationally, and internationally. I work with individuals around the world, and love what I do. For more information, please visit my private website.

Relationships are the foundation of our identity. Our relational experiences shape our identity, worldview, choices, patterns of interaction, and purpose in life. They let us know what is loveable about us, what needs we can expect to be met, which emotions are acceptable, and what kind of security may or may not be available to us. I work with individuals, couples, families (age 2-18) and parents, helping them understand their experiences of connection and any patterns, protections, wounds, vulnerabilities, adaptations, or indirect strategies for getting their needs met that may have emerged. I look forward to being alongside you. In my work with couples, I focus on strengthening trust, connection, and communication between partners. Where one of you pursues for connection, resolution, and validation and the other withdraws to dial down the tension, avoid conflict, and reduce the emotional intensity, I can help you to slow this dance down, reach for each other, and repair old wounds. I work with families to get to the root of their struggles. Together, we slow your interactions down so everyone can better understand what need is trying to be expressed, what has been missed, and how to meet the need directly so that problematic behaviors are no longer needed. My goal is to help you build a toolbox you can use longer after therapy ends.
