At a young age, I knew that I loved listening to people’s stories. This started with my ability to get lost in books, TV shows, and films, and then led to studying theatre. Eventually, I realized how I could combine my passion for stories, the empathy I felt, and the joy I experienced from being a helper – by being a therapist. I earned my doctorate in counseling psychology from the University of Tennessee in 2014, and, since then I have worked as a professor in psychology and counseling as well as a therapist. In my private practice, I am available to see individuals via telehealth in all 40 PSYPACT states (see: https://psypact.org/mpage/psypactmap). As a therapist, I offer an authentic, non-judgmental space, filled with unconditional care and, I guarantee, laughter. I will work with you to establish goals, and, with patience, accomplish the change that you want in your life. I identify strongly as an ally and I have a special interest in codependency recovery; grief therapy, especially the loss of a parent or pet/animal family member; life transitions, such as adjusting to college, a new job, move, or relationship change; men’s issues; LGBTQ+; and the use of Cognitive Processing Therapy for trauma recovery. When I’m not working with clients, I enjoy providing supervision to therapists-in-training or for licensure; walking and listening to audiobooks, just about any kind of music, and podcasts; ridiculously decorating my house for various holidays; spending time with my partner and ragdoll cat, Harry; cooking; and binge-watching TV shows.

I became an Associate Clinical Social Worker in 2022 and immediately began working as an Eating Disorder Therapist before venturing off to start my own business. Before that, I worked in many positions as an Advocate to students of all ages, parents, domestic violence victims/survivors, and more. My experiences have allowed me to witness the beauty and progression that diversity brings. I honor the diversity of clients by providing a service that is unique to each person I serve.

I reside and practice from the heart of Central Virginia with my incredible husband and three beautiful children. In over a decade, I've been honored to work in multiple treatment environments -- using a variety of traditional and nontraditional modalities. From Cognitive-based, Somatic Therapy, and Trauma-Sensitive mindfulness practices, to the creative arts, Play Therapy, and inner child work, I love to make my methods as individualized as those who desire support. For nearly six years, I’ve had the privilege of volunteering for a local maternal health nonprofit that is impassioned with sustaining free programming which empowers, educates, and eliminates access barriers to care. I seek to use a social justice lens, providing equitable spaces where persons can be authentic within safety. When not working, I enjoy going on adventures with my family, writing, and watching throwback Black 90’s sitcoms.

You should be proud that you’ve decided to take this first step of making yourself a priority. It takes courage to be vulnerable and admit, “I’m not ok.” Being willing to ask for help is a strength. At times in life, we may feel stuck and overwhelmed by debilitating burdens. Now is the time for healing and to work on releasing those heavy emotions. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, it is my goal to create a non-judgmental empathetic safe space to process feelings, learn to let go, and support you on your therapeutic journey. I’m sure you would like to know a little about my journey as well. I grew up in sunny San Diego in California. I enjoyed being a short drive from the beach and the beautiful weather. During my spare time, I love being with my family, husband, son, and dog Baxter. I strive to focus on my self-care with activities like acupuncture, being outdoors, traveling, and music festivals. You also may find me eating at all the different taco spots that Austin has to offer. My favorite is the Migas Taco from Veracruz All Natural! I got my Bachelor’s degree in psychology because I’ve always been fascinated with how the mind works. I moved to Austin to be close to my sister and nephew and pursue my Master's of Arts in Counseling from St. Edward’s University. Ever since I was little, I loved listening to everyone’s stories and helping people. I truly knew from a young age that I had an innate ability that was meant for supporting others. I always feel honored when people trust me on a deeper level and are truly able to be their authentic selves in our work together. Thank you for allowing me to go on this journey with you.

If you’ve made it to this website you probably already have a sense that something in your life is keeping you stuck or just isn’t working for you. Perhaps you’ve tried therapy before, or maybe this is your first time reaching out for help. Either way, you’ve come to the right place! I have 8 years of training and experience working with clients to address a broad range of psychological symptoms, with expertise in treating ADHD, anxiety, and addiction. I take an integrative approach to treatment, using strategies grounded in science and tailored to your individual strengths and interests. I draw from a broad range of evidence-based treatments, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and mindfulness-based techniques to address unhelpful thoughts and behaviors, improve coping skills, and cultivate a life that feels meaningful to you. Although, as humans, we often share common struggles, everyone’s experience and situation is different, and your treatment plan should reflect that. I believe that good therapy is collaborative and highly individualized. If this sounds like a good fit for you and your needs, give me a call, and together, we can come up with a plan that feels right for you.
