I know Mental Health matters more than anything else in our life and I have dedicated myself to helping others who are struggling to navigate their mental health journey. You are not Alone! I will listen to the client and work to develop a customized treatment plan to help them achieve mental wellness that is on their terms and unique to their needs. We are all different which is so beautiful and I feel we all have strengths and weaknesses to be consider and applied to be the best version of ourself for today. I know it's not easy and frankly almost impossible on some days, but when a client is truly heard and accepted they can thrive. I love nursing and know it is my calling in life. Combined with my own mental health journey I present you with a different approach to health care. Lets figure it out together. Medication management is only a part of a comprehensive approach to mental wellness. I combine therapy, holistic treatments, exercise, diet and spirituality to treat the whole person. We firmly believe a client should be able to reach their provider and ensure them we will be there every step of the way. And!!! we offer same day emergency appointments. Let us know how we can help.

I’m Christy. I am a dedicated therapist, a loving mother, a sister, and a good friend. I provide individual counseling to adults who are in search of peace and relief from symptoms related to mood instability, anxiety, relationships, life stress and/or trauma. As someone who has been through hard things and who has an intimate understanding of how difficult adulting can be, I approach my work as a counselor with genuineness, compassion, and encouragement. I believe in a person-centered and solution-focused approach where we work together to identify your goals and to develop a concrete plan to accomplish them, at your own pace. I draw from the techniques of Internal Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing, as well as utilizing powerful frameworks for gaining self-awareness, like the Enneagram. Because we are all complicated beings, I believe it’s important to explore the whole person, including the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that influence how we show up in our work, relationships and daily lives. I received my undergraduate degree in Anthropology in 2001, and completed a Master’s Degree in Community Counseling in 2007. My experience with direct care has been primarily in the public mental health system supporting adults who were experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. I then spent many years working with large behavioral health providers in Western North Carolina. Shifts in my life have brought me back to what feels most fulfilling, helping you lead the life you want to live. My hope is that during our work together you feel safe, seen, and free to say whatever needs to be said to improve your life in ways that feel important to you.

I founded Cultivate Wellness LLC in December of 2021 after gaining clinical experience in the mental health field in a variety of settings, including residential, in-home, outpatient, and substance use treatment. I have experience working with both adolescents and adults. As a therapist, I create a safe space for individuals to have vulnerable and important conversations about their barriers to treatment. I use a holistic approach, incorporating mindfulness-based and grounding techniques in my practice. I also utilize Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help individuals process obstacles to maintaining balance and mental wellness. I facilitate individualized treatment based on specific needs. I received my BA in Psychology from Fairfield University, and a Master’s in Social Work from Quinnipiac University and am licensed as an LCSW. I am also certified as a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200hr) and am passionate about the world of yoga and mindfulness, integrating this into my clinical practice.

Life can be hard at times, and going at it alone makes it harder. Having someone who will listen and who you can trust can mean the world. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I strive to help clients work through past and current issues by forming a relationship built on genuineness, empathy and unconditional positive regard. My passion to create a safe atmosphere allows clients to feel heard and to focus on their goals. Practicing through an eclectic lens of counseling approaches, I try to provide the tools and guidance that allow clients to work through any issue they need help with. As a counselor, I have a laid back, relaxed and informal style. I believe that a large part of what creates change is having a great connection with your counselor, something I strive for with all of my clients. While my main focus is on addiction, spiritual counseling and men’s issues (fatherhood, being a husband, gender roles, etc.), I am trained on a wide range of mental health and life issues and would be excited to work with you on any that may be challenging you. Reaching out is the first step. While it can be scary, I know you will not regret it. Regardless of your faith, sexual identity, race or gender identity, I am here for you. I would be honored to join you in a journey towards helping you achieve your goals. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my wife, two children and dog. My favorite activities are kayaking the river, spending time in nature, reading and trying new restaurants. I also enjoy dry humor, pranks, animals and anything nerdy.

My therapeutic approach is largely based in advocacy and empowerment. It is my belief that we are in control of our own destinies, and it is up to us to see the path to self-actualization. I do not give advice, but rather assist clients in structuring and rearranging their current lifestyles so that they can better see their own paths.
