Welcome to my profile! I am honored to take this moment to share a bit about my counseling approach and philosophy of helping. I believe that individuals have within themselves the power and tools to improve the quality of their lives. I am passionate about providing a welcoming place to assist individuals in becoming more aware of what they want and need, the choices they have in life, and their own potential to heal. I view counseling as a collaborative process of building on the strengths and assets of clients and promote these to maximize life satisfaction and healthy living. My work is guided by the values of compassion, collaboration, acceptance, and client autonomy. I focus on guiding clients to live their best lives and acknowledge their own ideas for behavior change. If counseling is successful, you should feel stronger in your ability to face life's challenges and uncover personal strengths. I utilize many techniques in counseling, primarily designed to increase awareness, provide encouragement, challenge faulty cognitive patterns, and clarify and explore goals of behavior. I am an expert in Motivational Interviewing and use this model as one primary intervention. I also provide clinical assessment services at the client's request.

The primary focus in my therapy practice is helping others who may be struggling with stress or anxiety, including a wide range of anxiety based diagnoses such as Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and Social Phobias or general phase of life stressors. Our world can be very stressful at times and I find my clients are often high functioning but often neglect themselves. Making that first call is a big step, and taking care of your mental health is so important. Anxiety can be extremely overwhelming and debilitating but relief is possible. My primary mode of treatment is a highly effective approach called CBT, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Making the connection between what we are thinking and our mental health has been scientifically proven to significantly improve mood and reduce feelings of anxiety and depression. Taking that first step to reach out can be difficult but so important to begin the process of healing and relief. We all need help at times and I consider it a privilege to support others on a part of their journey. Give me a call or send an email to schedule your first appointment.

I believe that mental health is similar to one's physical health. Just as we can hurt and thrive physically, so can we hurt and thrive psychologically and emotionally. There are times when we can all use someone to talk to, someone to help us navigate life, or someone to walk with us as we move through periods of growth and newness. I will work hard to meet you where you are, offering unconditional regard and emotional support. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. I have been practicing in the mental and behavioral health field since 2013. Sometimes life provides us with moments that seems to leave us feeling disconnected from ourselves and others. We may feel overwhelmed by uncomfortable feelings such as fear, hurt, grief, anger, depression, loneliness, and/or anxiety that tend to make life difficult to enjoy. The goal is to learn how to embrace these moments without self-judgement and provide self-love in the form of understanding, patience, and a desire to move towards wholeness. With over 10 years of experience working in the mental health field, I have learned to utilize a wide range of therapeutic models as opposed to a-one-size-fits-all approach. I offer compassionate, ethical, research-proven counseling strategies in a safe, warm, non-judgmental, and confidential environment. I would love the opportunity to be a supportive contributor to you while on your growth journey.

Often by the time an individual is entering my office, they have become bogged down and overwhelmed by stress in their life. It is my goal to help quiet the mind (and the busy, stressful world) enough to get in touch with the heart and find true healing. I am a down-to-earth therapist - essentially just another being walking this path of life and trying to find fulfillment in it. I deeply value the time spent with clients as they navigate their lives, figuring out their stressors and their innermost needs that are not being addressed & being with folks as they seek a more centered, authentic and empowered life. I have clinical training in a variety of modalities that can be adjusted and tailored to meet the pace and expectations the client has, including CBT, ACT, EMDR and Mindfulness. My “style” is all about figuring out what is unconsciously stirring up trouble– negative internal dialogue, emotions, behaviors, relationships– and finding healing. It is my hope that clients will build comfort and security in their bodies, ground and tune into the heart and listen, listen, listen. YOU have the answer. I am simply a passenger on the journey. By building your presence within and learning to regulate stress, we can build safety and security in the most important relationship – the one you have with you.

My treatment approach involves providing a safe, supportive, warm and encouraging environment. I believe that every person is unique and deserves individualized treatment. My practice serves children, adults, and families. Living Tree Counseling specializes in treating Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Disorders. My work with you will be to build a positive, trusting, non-judgmental therapeutic relationship in which we can work together through whatever difficulties you may be facing. I have been providing Christian counseling since 2010. In 2014, I graduated from Logos University with a Master's of Arts in Christian Counseling. In 2018, I graduated from Wichita State University with a Master's of Education in Counseling, and became licensed with the State of Kansas. Life is hard. Yet, I do believe that we have everything available to us that we need to successfully navigate this thing called “life”. Often, the most valuable resource available to us is another person who can walk alongside us, listen to us, cheer us on, and even challenge our thinking at times. I begin most days with the prayer, “God, help me to help people today.” If I may be of help to you, please reach out today.

I believe in transparency and honesty. I have experienced my own difficulties and challenges in life after 22 years in the U.S. Army and I am in recovery from PTSD and substance abuse. Nobody wakes up one morning and decides to be addicted to substances. It just happens. We are not weak, defective, useless, worthless, morally corrupt, or any other disparaging comments often said about individuals with a Substance Use Disorder. We are loving individuals that are just hurting inside. We want what everyone else wants....to just be accepted and needed for who we are. I use an eclectic approach to therapy; including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Eye Movement, Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Just as each one of us are unique with our own individualistic personalities, I too believe therapy should be tailored to the individual. There is no one model that fits everyone. I have been there. After my return from my third combat deployment, I began abusing prescription medication and alcohol. Fortunately, I was blessed with the opportunity to get help. This journey has led me to dedicating my life to helping others experiencing similar difficulties. I don't have all of the answers, but I do know the way out.

At times, life can feel overwhelming, but you don't have to bear the burden alone. I have 25 years in the behavioral health field as an executive, teacher, consultant and dually-licensed clinician helping people move beyond their burdens to get on with their lives. I have been providing clinical services since 2005, and I'm a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science along with the American Counseling Association. My experience includes treating depression, anxiety, panic, stress, anger, trauma, grief and problematic substance use across the lifespan. View 6 Photos My primary therapeutic orientation is a mindfulness-based treatment known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Instead of trying to control or get rid of unwanted experiences, this approach develops the flexibility to respond differently so that you get unstuck from what is holding you back. It is an inherently person-centered, strength-based modality. Sometimes our struggles seem like we are in a tug-of-war with our own feelings, thoughts, pain, suffering, past and worries. At times, it may even feel like it's too much because you still haven't won that war, no matter what you've tried. Together, we can learn how to drop the rope so that you can get on with what is truly important - your life!
