Profile

I understand the importance of developing resilience-to-change in order to effectively cope with major life transitions (marriage, birth of a child, loss of a loved one, divorce, retirement, new job). Without such resilience, life can feel overwhelming, self esteem becomes precarious, and mood can dip dramatically. Through my warm, direct, highly international approach, I collaborate with my clients to address the behaviors that continue to cause pain. My books, teaching and supervision have provided training for 100s of other clinicians to help their clients to feel more empowered in relationship and to fulfill their potential
My active approach offers an understanding of the negative impact of the past while actively tackling current self defeating behaviors. This effectively engages Couples (in both traditional and nontraditional relationships), stressed executives, ACOA's, and parents dealing with a grown child’s failure to launch.
As former Director of the Substance Abuse Outpatient Clinic at McLean Hospital, I have worked for more than 35 years with successful professionals who have had personal histories involving alcohol abuse, or who grew up in families where an alcohol problem took its toll. I have also helped scores of family members intervene to help a loved-one get treatment.
