Query: I’m looking for psychologists to comment on the arch-nemesis trope in fiction. The trope is very common in comic books, movies, games, etc. and I would like comments on why it has such broad appeal. What does it tell us about human nature and psychology? Why do we love watching heroes struggle to fight a villain they never truly defeat? Any other comments on the topic would be welcome as well.
