Ever feel like weekly therapy sessions aren’t enough to tackle your anxiety, trauma, grief, or relationship challenges? Enter therapy intensives—your potential fast track to deeper healing.

In this post, we’ll dive into what therapy intensives are, who they’re for, how they work, and whether they might be the right fit for you.

What Are Therapy Intensives?

Think of therapy intensives as the deep-dive version of therapy. Instead of spreading sessions over months, intensives pack in hours or even days of focused work in a short time frame. It’s like binge-watching your favorite show but for emotional healing. With therapy intensives, you’ll have extended, uninterrupted time to process issues and work on solutions.

How Do Therapy Intensives Work?

At Be BOLD Psychology and Consulting, we design therapy intensives tailored to your specific needs. Here’s how they typically unfold:

  1. Initial Consultation: We’ll discuss your goals and challenges to ensure an intensive is the right fit.
  2. Customized Plan: Your therapist will create a structured plan based on your unique concerns, such as anxiety, trauma, or relationship dynamics. Typically this will include 60-minute intakes, which may or may not be scheduled on the day of the intensive, followed by 3 to 8 hour sessions, depending on your schedule and needs.
  3. Focused Sessions: These sessions can span a full day or multiple days, incorporating evidence-based practices like EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, or somatic work. For Relationship Intensives, aspects of the Gottman Method or the Gottman Relationship Check Up may be used and reviewed as well. Skills from Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy may also be brought into session!
  4. Follow-Up Support: After the intensive, you’ll oftentimes receive virtual handouts, resources, tools, and a plan for continued growth and success. On a case-by-case basis, you may schedule another intensive or potentially continue with individual therapy.

Who Benefits From Therapy Intensives?

Therapy intensives can help individuals, couples, and families address a variety of challenges, including:

  • Anxiety and Stress: Unpack triggers and develop coping mechanisms.
  • Trauma and Grief: Process unresolved pain and find pathways to healing.
  • Relationship Challenges: Strengthen communication and rebuild connection.
  • Burnout: Recharge and realign with your values.
  • Identity Exploration: Navigate transitions, such as coming out or major life changes.

Why Choose a Therapy Intensive?

Here’s why an intensive might work for you:

  • Quick Results: Ideal for those who want accelerated progress on a specific issue.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Perfect for busy individuals who can’t commit to weekly sessions.
  • Focused Attention: Extended time with your therapist allows for deeper work, without needing to pause every 60 minutes for a week or two! Imagine if you could just continue at the 60-minute mark. After all, we are just getting warmed up!
