So many of my clients come in feeling like something is wrong with them. They are relieved to know that their feelings are normal. My clients come to me because they just want to feel better. They want to be less depressed, less anxious, better parents, more confident, and have healthier relationships. I work with my clients as they learn new ways of coping and living life that free them from negative thoughts, behaviors and patterns of emotional reactivity. I specialize in emotional regulation. I do this by using a variety of modalities and interventions designed to give my clients greater insight into themselves. I teach about the brain and the part it plays in our ability to manage emotions, especially difficult or painful ones. I love working with my clients and genuinely seek therapeutic connection. I take a more casual approach to therapy and love it when clients bring a coffee, kick off their shoes, and cozy up on the couch! Come join me as we sit together in the middle of your life and learn about yourself, your relationships, and how to be your BEST self!

My clinical area of interest and training is in behavioral pediatric counseling and cognitive behavioral therapy. I use my training to promote positive mental and behavioral health to children and their families. I use skills from a treatment approach called Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) to teach caregivers positive parenting and relationship-enhancing skills. PCIT teaches behavior management strategies to manage disruptive behavior, aggression, and promote adhering to instructions and family home rules. Other mental and behavioral concerns I assist children, youth, and families with include: academic problems, adjustments (death, divorce), aggression, ADHD, autism, child abuse/neglect/trauma, depression, developmental disabilities, fears & anxieties, feeding problems/picky eaters, oppositional behavior, pain management, parent training, sibling rivalry, sleep concerns, stress, thumb sucking, & toilet training. Additionally, I have completed training in Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TF-CBT), an empirically-supported treatment program to assist children and their non-offending parents during the process of healing from child abuse, neglect, and trauma. I use these skills to assist individuals through traumatic experiences they've encountered.

My ideal client is someone ready to go beyond just talking about problems, and instead, dive deep within themselves to heal. In my 12 years of clinical practice, I have observed that true and lasting healing must involve the mind. body, and soul. As a Yoga Therapy Teacher-in-Training, I believe that somatic work is crucial to deeper healing. I also emphasize the importance of meditation, mindfulness, and spirituality. In my office or virtually, I offer a safe space, an empathic heart, and a variety of brain-based, trauma-centered modalities. View 10 Photos EMDR and Brain Spotting are my two favorite modalities, and both can be done virtually. I am a Certified EMDR Therapist and Consultant in Training (CIT). I am a Certified Brainspotting Therapist and working toward a specialized track in BSP and spirituality . Check out www.EMDRIA.org and www.Brainspotting.com for more info. I believe that in order to heal, people need to feel safe and supported. My healing style focuses on finding your internal strength, shedding old negative beliefs about yourself that no longer serve you. I bring creativity, flexibility, and positive empowering energy to all of my sessions and tailor the treatment to what will most benefit you.

I specialize in gentle and supportive methods of assisting clients to overcome the recurrent effects of trauma. This generally involves helping a client learn to manage the recurrent symptoms of trauma and concurrently address and heal from the cause. The challenges of life offer us incredible opportunities for healing and growth. I want to create a safe space to explore the depths of unresolved life experiences. I work with women and treat depression, anxiety, stress, and trauma-related issues. Throughout our lives, many of us develop defenses and behaviors to survive. We may find in time that these ways of survival no longer serve us but instead keep us feeling trapped. Our once understandable attempts to avoid pain may have left us feeling disconnected from ourselves and others. Your true self is not your survival strategies. View 5 Photos I utilize a wide variety of therapeutic interventions with a Christian background and tailor therapy to each individual's needs. I have specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Somatic Therapy, and Expressive Arts Therapy.

I'm so happy you've found your way here. I respect you for taking this step towards wellness! Perhaps you have been feeling like life has been hard for you lately, and you’re seeking out answers on how to feel better. Maybe you are struggling with negative thoughts that don’t seem to go away, and keep you stuck. You may have persistent feelings that you aren’t good enough, that everyone else seems to have it together, why don’t you? I believe it is possible to feel better. I believe that we can learn to understand ourselves in such a way that we can create the change to live our best lives. View 4 Photos I provide therapy from an integrative approach that has been successful with my clients in improving their emotional health and increasing insight so they can better understand how they function in their world, and what they may want to be different. My approach is non-judgmental, empathic, culturally humble, and where appropriate humorous. The therapeutic relationship is one of, if not the most important ingredient to counseling, because without the feeling of safety, compassion, and genuineness, there is no theory or approach to counseling that will be effective. I am hopeful that I can be even a small part of assisting you in your journey to wellness and peace!

The foundation of my counseling practice is the therapeutic alliance, rapport, and trust with my clients. My person-centered approach allows for positive changes to occur within the safety of a healthy therapeutic relationship. My role is to be genuine and authentic, to treat you with empathy unconditionally, and to provide you with a safe, nonjudgmental environment to reconnect with your authentic self. I tailor interventions to the needs of individual clients, incorporating CBT, DBT, and solution-focused work. I don't believe in “one size fits all” counseling approach, strategy, so I empower clients to chart their own course. My primary areas of focus include anxiety, self-acceptance, substance use disorders, self-esteem, interpersonal relationships, sex/sexuality, and trauma-informed therapy. I work with teenagers and adults in navigating the unique challenges and needs of these life stages. I have worked in residential treatment, but currently practice outpatient therapy. I look forward to working with you! I'll leave you with a favorite quote: “Finding yourself is not really how it works. Your true self is right there, buried under... inaccurate beliefs about who you are. It is actually returning to yourself: an unlearning, an excavation, a remembering of who you were before the world got its hands on you.” –Emily McDowell
