My couples appts are currently full and I do not keep a waiting list - I will update this information when couples appts become available. There are times in life when the coping skills that we have are no longer effective and the things that you thought that you moved past are somehow staring you in the face. I provide a comfortable atmosphere to discover skills to tackle old and new "things". I enjoy working with adults and couples. My area of interests include anxiety, depression, marital concerns, PTSD, and trauma. I incorporate CBT, DBT, EMDR, and AEDP into my practice. When working with couples I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman curriculum. My goal is to partner with clients to explore the skills they desire to focus on in their broad situations and life experiences. I believe that therapy is a unique partnership between the client and therapist. I am open to exploring a partnership that will yield your desired outcomes. You are welcome to schedule a phone consultation to decide if I would be a good partner in your wellness journey. Please access my website for additional information about my practice and fee schedule.

You are so incredibly valuable. You deserve a life free from fear, anxiety, and depression. But, like drops of water in a bucket, negative experiences have a way of building up over time. The inability to empty our bucket causes us to feel overwhelmed by our thoughts, emotions and the world around us. Right now, as you read this, I want you to imagine what it might feel like to find freedom and to put down the burdens you're carrying. Imagine what it might be like for your past to no longer control you or for your future to contain hope instead of dread. Come in, let's talk and let an experienced guide point you towards possibility. To assist in your journey, I'm always seeking to expand my skills. In addition to the standard therapeutic training, I'm also a Clinical Certified Trauma Professional and utilize EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). Combined with these techniques, I'll help you unlock the power of developing self-awareness and self-compassion. As part of Chenal Family Therapy PLC, I consult with our team of therapists and psychiatrists who specialize in different issues, ensuring that all possible treatment approaches are considered. If we encounter problems outside my areas of expertise, I can provide seamless referrals, including testing and medication management, to get you the help you need.

I once had a client compare meeting a new therapist to being on a blind date. No one therapist approaches challenges the same way and we are all unique just like you. While it may feel like being on a blind date, reading a therapist’s bio is a way to take some of the guesswork out of the equation. I received my M.S. in Counseling Psychology from Frostburg State University in 2005 and became a Licensed Professional Counselor in 2013. Over the years I have had the privilege of working with a diverse population of individuals including LGBTQ+ and adults with Mild Intellectual Disability. While my counseling background is primarily based in CBT, I also draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy. One of the aspects I love regarding counseling is there can be more than one way to achieve a desired outcome, meaning everyone’s therapeutic journey is uniquely different. We can talk, draw, create sensory bottles, do simple yoga poses - the only thing we are limited by is our imagination.

I use the humanistic/existential approach based on works of Vicktor Frankl, Abraham Maslow and one of my teachers Irv Yalom. Simply put this approach is about the belief that the ability to heal ourselves is within us and our job as mental health professionals is to create a safe and nurturing environment to promote personal growth, self-actualization and to help people create a life worth living. This is done by the clinician and client creating what Martin Buber calls the I-THOU relationship. The I- THOU relationship is based on mutual trust, respect, and unconditional positive regard. Everyone has a unique story and perspective on the world. It is my goal to foster a safe and collaborative space where we can build trust and explore various parts of that story together. I value mutual respect, communication, fluidity, and acceptance, and that is what I aim to bring to the therapeutic space. I’m here to provide a warm and meaningful environment for you to feel heard, accepted, and a space where you can creatively challenge the ideas and stories that are a part of your lived experience. I believe that people are not defined by the problems they struggle with. I’m passionate about working with youth, adolescents and young adults through this belief - you are not the problem; the problem is the problem. Through different therapeutic approaches, together we can explore how the problem has manifested itself in your life. Everyone seeks therapy for a different reason, but for whatever reason brought you here, I’m proud of you and am appreciative to be a part of your journey. I would love to speak with you more about how we can work together to achieve your therapeutic goals.
