My couples appts are currently full and I do not keep a waiting list - I will update this information when couples appts become available. There are times in life when the coping skills that we have are no longer effective and the things that you thought that you moved past are somehow staring you in the face. I provide a comfortable atmosphere to discover skills to tackle old and new "things". I enjoy working with adults and couples. My area of interests include anxiety, depression, marital concerns, PTSD, and trauma. I incorporate CBT, DBT, EMDR, and AEDP into my practice. When working with couples I use Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and Gottman curriculum. My goal is to partner with clients to explore the skills they desire to focus on in their broad situations and life experiences. I believe that therapy is a unique partnership between the client and therapist. I am open to exploring a partnership that will yield your desired outcomes. You are welcome to schedule a phone consultation to decide if I would be a good partner in your wellness journey. Please access my website for additional information about my practice and fee schedule.

I work with clients whose psychological issues cross the boundaries between brain, body, mind, and spirit. Special interests are the broad spectrum of ADHD and related brain differences, and the stress caused by living with these in a misunderstanding society. My approach integrates mindfulness practices, attention and working memory training, with depth psychology (dreamwork, a symbolic and imaginative approach to life, seeking meaning beneath constriction). Because neuropsychological issues raise questions of meaning, self-worth, and place in the world, these are central to my work. Unfortunately, our culture often sees ADHD as laziness or irresponsibility rather than what it is: a brain difference with positive as well as negative potentials. I help clients understand and challenge this distortion. The uniqueness of my approach is that I integrate cognitive-behavioral practices like breathing, executive function training, and neurofeedback with depth psychological therapy and mindfulness. The mind and body exist in a profound relationship of mutual influence; therefore, it is most effective to work with both at once.

In today's fast paced world, individuals are expected to do more in the same amount of time. As a result, we are engaging in less self-care and over time chronic levels of stress can result in increased periods of anxiety, depression, and even chronic illness. My passion is to provide support to those facing emotional dysregulation and/or chronic illness. Because the mind-body connection is so powerful, I believe in a holistic path to healing; a path where the mind, body and spirit is embraced in the work that we will do together. I primarily use a combination of mindfulness, cognitive behavioral therapy, and somatic approaches. Over the last 20 years, I have worked extensively in a variety of healthcare settings including long-term care, hospice, and an acute care hospital setting. Working in a variety of healthcare settings has provided me with a unique lens into the many needs and adversities that individuals encounter in the US healthcare system. I believe that the ability to heal oneself lies within all of us; the therapist is a guide and the client is the driver. I have additional training in trauma-informed care and am fully committed to receiving ongoing education in order to provide excellent mental health services. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me for a free 15 min phone consultation.

My counseling philosophy involves allowing a client to be themselves and working to meet them "wherever they may be on their own self discovery journey". I have been in the counseling field for over 20 years and have tremendous experience working with several populations. I have learned that individuals have the innate capacity to grow and become their best selves, given an environment in which they can do so. Asking for help to do this can be very difficult. Regardless of the obstacles in your life, you have the capacity to move forward. I am a LCPC in Boise, Idaho and have experience working with individuals, couples, addictions, past trauma, anxiety, refugees, grief and loss, mood disorders, depression, gender issues, and much more. My therapeutic approaches include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Solution Focused Therapy, as well as several other approaches. If you are self-searching or addressing issues causing you struggles, consider improving your self-growth through counseling in a safe, accepting, and therapeutic environment.

My "ideal client" is one who perceives me as his/her ideal therapist. If I am best fit for this client, then I am most useful to this client, and I serve my purpose and this is my ideal client. Together he or she and I would find solutions to the problems. Mental health is not an exact science. Psychotherapy or counseling is an art and science. I believe an effective clinician uses experiential and experimental data. The symptoms, or issues, build up diagnoses whereby we generate treatment options. A clinician tries whatever treatment options within ethical bounds to reach the client/s wellness goals. I believe my multiple specialties speak to my professionalism which places me in an optimal helping position: approved supervisor of American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy; served on the credentialing board of Nebraska Mental Health Practice Board; trained mediator; legislative chair of Nebraska AMFT, and thrice elected as president. At the intake I will tell my clients my advantage over you is not the diplomas on my wall but that I have listened to so many stories, I can share with you what works and what does not work. I engage so that they will come back.

Many of us work really hard to appear “normal,” hoping no one will notice how anxious, burnt out, confused, or angry we are. We often feel lost and alone even though it looks like we have it figured out. We beat ourselves up when we feel like we don’t get it right and we wonder if we’ll ever be able to figure it out. The idea of someone finding out the depth of our struggle is terrifying. Often, people seek therapy after they’ve tried everything else they can think of, so my guess is you may be feeling tired and defeated. I’m holding hope for you and would love to be there for you in the dark. I believe we can work together to help you connect with yourself and find a sense of peace. In therapeutic relationships, I focus on building genuine connection and take a very come-as-you-are approach. Collaboration is vital, so I’m eager to work with you and support you as the expert of your experiences. From complex trauma to brief bouts of the blues, I’m here for it. I’m excited to be part of your growth, and I can’t wait to hear from you!
