You’ve experienced a great loss or significant trauma and your world feels dark and confusing. You feel lost, overwhelmed, anxious, angry, numb, and exhausted – often all at the same time. You’re wondering who you are now and if you’ll ever feel like yourself again. I get it. I’ve experienced it. Grief and traumatic stress are messy and unruly, and they definitely don’t obey clearly defined stages or fit neatly into any timeframe. Still, as painful as this is to hear, grief is normal, natural, and necessary. And, healing from a traumatic experience is possible. You don’t have to face either alone. I’d be honored to walk with you. While I don’t have magic words to quickly end your anguish or cure your grief (because those words don’t exist), what I do offer is a place where it can be truly seen. A place to honor your love, your loss, and your experience, speak without fear of judgment, be respected for the pace and shape of your journey, and feel supported along the way. I use office-based and equine-assisted counseling to help you identify healthy ways of acknowledging your grief or trauma, coping with it, and learning to carry it when you’re ready to move forward. Ultimately, we’ll work together to help you feel like your life has meaning and purpose that honors your experience and isn’t solely defined by it.

Our relationship to ourselves, others and the world are all intimately connected. Few of us walk through life without significant challenges that require us to grow, heal and change. As a therapist my purpose is to create a trusting respectful relationship with clients, whether dealing with trauma, depression, anxiety, loss, or relationship issues. My approach is tailored to meet the needs of each client's unique situation, using traditional and alternative interventions and may be either short or long term. Of particular interest to me is working with couples through counseling and powerful group workshop models. I have considerable training and experience in working with couples, individually and in couples' workshops. My 25 year practice as a physical therapist and study of body based therapies also informs my practice. I am a trained Enneagram teacher and presenter and use the excellent map of the Enneagram when appropriate. It is sometimes hard to reach out for help. The truth, we all need it in many ways; it's part of our being human, as is the reality of life's challenges. I offer a safe place for you to explore whatever it is you may be struggling with.

Coming to therapy always takes a lot of courage! Talking with someone about the things affecting us in our lives can be difficult. But, when the right steps are taken and we can see other ways to approach our problems, life can change. My goal as a therapist is to help people discover new ways to approach the difficult times in life and find alternative solutions. Ultimately, most people are seeking ways to have better relationships and feel a sense of contentment in life. Through individual, couples or family therapy I help people find these new ways of living. I use an integrative therapeutic approach that borrows from cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy. In couples therapy I tend to use an emotionally focused approach. I am a Clinical Member of the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy with an Approved Supervisor designation. I also happen to be ordained as a clergy person in the Episcopal Church (vocational deacon). Though I don't "push" any sort of religious agenda, my spirituality does influence my practice. I am comfortable talking about religious matters, but will never push upon people any of my religious beliefs.
