Does this sound like your internal dialogue?: “What is wrong with me? Why can’t I just do better, be better? Will I always feel this broken?” What if the answer is that there is NOTHING wrong with you. What if you were to find out that you are fundamentally, at your core, a deeply good and capable human. What if love and acceptance for self and others were your status quo? We will explore aspects of yourself that may be difficult to love and accept, to help you better understand why you are repeating patterns that are harming you or the people around you, and to find a place where you can safely express all of who you are. I’m Ames. I am white, queer, non-binary/ trans and social justice oriented. I provide gender affirming and trauma informed care to those embarking on a journey related to gender and sexuality identity exploration or interested in working on trauma or abuse history. My training in dance/ movement therapy, EMDR, and acceptance practices will inform our work. Our work together will focus both on development of coping skills to navigate daily stressors and triggers and, at times, will look back to experiences from the past that influence your life and relationships. Letters of support for gender affirming care provided, no long term commitment necessary. I work with adults and children 12 and over.

Do you feel dissatisfied with life? Are you struggling with finding purpose? Maybe you notice that you tend to care for others before you care for yourself. You could have a hard time saying “no” or even feel guilty afterwards. These predicaments can stem from not intentionally and holistically honoring our being; mind, body, and spirit. Discipline and consistency, as values of self-care, can be incredibly difficult to implement in a world that’s fast-paced and focused on instant gratification. From racial disparities to social injustice, society forces us to adapt to inequity; how are you caring for you? Imagine releasing control of anything that does not serve you. As a holistic health practitioner, my mental health services incorporate evidence-based practices, yoga instruction (RYT-200), and/or reiki healing (Kemetic Reiki). My therapeutic approach involves mindfulness practice, movement, introspection, and self-study. I specialize in Black women issues. I am here for you. I’m here to encourage, challenge, advocate for, and meet you where you are. Let’s work together to customize and implement a plan based on your aspirations, and creatively tackle any barriers prohibiting you from experiencing optimum wellness. It is time to live for YOU, through intention, appreciation, self-compassion, and celebration!

As a holistic, body-centered therapist, I believe that each person's deepest truths lie beyond the cognitive. I love helping my clients get to know themselves on a deeper level, and witnessing them realize their full potential as a result. I approach my work through a client-centered, somatic lens. By utilizing interventions aimed at strengthening the mind-body connection, I ultimately hope to help my client's gain a new sense of ownership over their emotions and identities.

You are the expert on your own life. Many believe that going to therapy is about someone else giving you the answers, but the truth is, therapy is all about someone coming alongside of you with support and encouragement so that you, the expert, can achieve the goals you want for your life. Therapy works because you choose it! My name is Ashley Slade and I am here to partner with you. As an eclectic/integrative therapist, I utilize many skills and techniques to advocate for you as an individual and for the situations that are present in your life. I will encourage your voice, verbally and nonverbally to enable self-expression, self-reflection, and self-awareness to help you build and maintain a positive sense of self. My psychotherapeutic approaches and interventions are humanistic, experiential, cognitive-behavioral, and psychoanalytic. My clinical lens is trauma informed – understanding that things happen to people, always believing your life narratives and recognizing that though there are steps to recovery, it isn’t easy. As a Movement Therapist, I focus on mind/body connection, facilitating breath-work, mindfulness and embodiment techniques.

Seeking balance? I am a trained social worker who works with women, men, couples, and adolescents. You may struggle with situations and issues in your life including but not limited to coping with strong emotions, thinking poorly of yourself, a traumatic event or experiencing frustration in relationships. Therapy, to me, is a collaborative process in which one is able to reflect on thought processes, emotional states, roles in a system, and ineffective behaviors while in a safe and secure environment. I try to create a collaborative alliance with my clients that allows them to understand themselves better and find balance. I use a mindfulness approach: the practice of being present in the current moment non-judgmentally of self. I may ask you to challenge yourself, reflect on perspective, or develop alternatives, but I will not push, judge, or tell you what to do. The power to heal is within you. Therapy provides an opportunity for growth. "The most fundamental aggression to ourselves, the most fundamental harm we can do to ourselves, is to remain ignorant by not having the courage and the respect to look at ourselves honestly and gently" - Pema Chödrön.

Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities where confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Feel Better Therapy began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients. Therapy is a truly unique journey. I believe in the power of the mind-body connection and seek to help clients understand how their experiences affect their whole system. Connecting with clients brings me joy and I strive to cater my skill set to meet your specific needs. Often, I invite creativity in to help you heal and grow into a more integrated version of yourself. Movement is a helpful tool to build more awareness, but I also recognize that moving and exploring creatively in a therapeutic setting can be challenging. My hope is to help you feel more at home in yourself while finding a soft landing to do the work. While I primarily utilize a client-centered approach, my framework is eclectic in hopes of pulling in elements of various theories based on your unique needs. Theories include: dance/movement therapy, elements from other creative arts therapies, mindfulness based techniques, client-centered, CBT, narrative, solution focused, and relational-cultural. I see a wide range of ages including young adults, adolescents, and children 12+. For the past 7 years, I have experience working with eating disorders and body image, depression, anxiety, PTSD, school anxiety/school refusal, student/collegiate athletes, life transitions, and mindfulness through both talk and movement.

I know the path of healing that I have created. Born two months early, I haven't ever, consistently and truly felt safe. My nervous system didn't have true co-regulation, and my mom had to stay in a different hospital. Growing up in a loud family (lots of yelling), and then having people's imposed high expectations to become my own perfectionism. We can only push for so long... My crash came almost 10 years ago, I was an alcoholic with depression, and became so shame-filled and overwhelmed, I attempted suicide. My bottom was low. My goal is to help people begin to learn to slowly titrate a safe co-regulative space, which begins with small cues of safety, becoming safe enough to trust, and as I draw their own resources from within them, they learn how to notice, name, and get to know parts of themselves they may not even think about; those learned pattern from childhood. I have landed and stayed in recovery, and I also understand the need to numb out the overwhelm feels incredibly dangerous, because of the stress it causes in our system. And because the mind and body are energetically connected, so we need to work with both. My passion is from experience, and my mission is to create safety in individuals, communities, schools... to build less reactivity between us, reaching wider and wider audiences, to create openness and stop 'us vs them'. Humans are messy. So, lets create a safe container where we can be messy with each other.
