I have always believed that individuals have the strength, insight, and power within themselves to build their most meaningful life, sometimes with a little bit of support from those around them. This primary belief led me to the field of clinical social work, where one of the core values of the entire profession is that we believe in the dignity and worth of each and every individual. My professional experiences within the field of clinical social work over the past 20 years have been extensive, allowing me the benefit of working with individuals at all ages and stages of life, within a wide variety of specialization areas. In 2016, my professional path led me towards private practice, where I took a leap of faith and opened the doors to my own office. Initially intending my practice to be a part-time supplement to my full-time work, it quickly became apparent that people needed support, especially in the areas of my focus. My work as a therapist, author, and college professor is my passion but I also believe in a strong work-life balance. When I am not with clients or students, you can often find me on a sports field cheering on one of my children or taking quiet time at home with one of our 5 (yes, 5!) pets.

It is possible to overcome seemingly insurmountable life challenges and find stability. Psychotherapy can light the way from chaos and hopelessness towards self-acceptance, meaning, and control. Focused on your individual needs, I strive to create a time and space which is entirely yours. A safe, private, well-bounded space where honest and intimate discussions can take place. For the past 12 years, I have been working with a diverse mixture of individuals and couples using primarily psychoanalytic techniques. My aim is not simply to facilitate symptom relief, but to midwife meaningful and positive changes in your life. As a licensed clinical psychologist, I enjoy working with a small number of clients towards resolving a wide range of concerns including Relational Issues, Grief/Loss, Depression, Anxiety, Trauma, Adjustment Issues, School/Career Concerns, Low Self-Esteem, Food/Body Image Problems, and Identity Issues. Working together as a team, your goals are my priority. You can find direction, realize your strength, and attain your aspirations. I understand how difficult it is to start therapy. Take the first step now and contact me to arrange a first session. If you decide to move forward, know that you will have a time and space devoted to addressing your needs. I look forward to meeting you and working together soon.

I see my practice as encompassing three primary areas: grief (in all its forms), EMDR for trauma, and LGBTQ issues. I have experience working with death and non-death loss across the lifespan, with particular interest in traumatic/sudden loss and partner/spousal bereavement. For this, I provide both individual and group therapy. Additionally, I am EMDR trained and apply this modality to a wide range of trauma histories, especially sexual trauma. Most of my practice serves LGBTQ individuals and I provide support on issues related to identity development, relationships, and stigma.

I specialize in the Twice Exceptional, a term for high IQ individuals who are also diagnosed with neurodivergence. I am also an AAMFT, MN BBHT + BMFT Approved Supervisor. I have a particular specialty in working with OCPD/Autism/rigidity, chronic illness, perfectionism, and bridging relational differences (between neurodivergence, cultures, race, SES, and health status). I work outside of the insurance model and often meet with clients for a longer period of time than the standard therapeutic hour, but with less frequency (such as 90min, biweekly sessions). I also practice from a place of “therapy polyamory”, wherein I encourage cx’s to have a primary and secondary therapist who engage in care coordination to help cx’s achieve their goals faster. I have a private practice in Golden Valley, MN, and see clients both in-person and via telehealth. People who think I'm a fit are often high-achieving individuals who find it grating to be so acutely aware of their problem(s) or symptom(s), have tried all the solutions they can think of, and are giving therapy “one last chance.” I successfully get clients “unstuck” by challenging them in new, surprising, and unconventional ways that are intended to push people 20% beyond where they are comfortable (because that’s where the growth happens!). My style is transparent, funny, collaborative, and unconventional. My orientation borrows from Motivational Interviewing, Somatic-Experiential, and IFS. These modalities help me to understand you, your unique situation, and what’s actually helpful. From there, I assist as an: accountabilibuddy, awkward situation specialist, and emotional disruption manager. I decided to become a therapist because I was so disappointed in my own therapy. Providers explained away things that shouldn't have been, and I wasn't viewed holistically. I felt overlooked, ignored, and hopeless. I work hard to ensure my clients never experience that.
